Simple Beauty

One summer morning when I was a young boy, about 10 years old I’d say, give or take a couple years, my mother took me and my 2 brothers to visit our Aunt and Uncle. I walked around to the side of their house and found my Uncle Ray standing quietly, gazing upon a peach colored Daylily that had dew drops on it glistening like diamonds in the early morning sun. He put his hand on my shoulder. “You know” he whispered, “Of all the things God has created, a flower is the most beautiful. So complex in it’s design, yet so simple in it’s beauty”.

The memory of that moment in time has remained with me throughout my life and given me my love of flowers. Every Spring I plant a variety of colors in containers on my deck. Whenever I get the chance I position a chair right in the middle of them, so I’m surrounded by the flowers, and sit quietly, taking in the sight and smell of my little oasis.
Thanks Uncle Ray.

No matter where you live all you need is a 6 foot square and some sunlight. Be it a patio in your yard, a deck, a balcony, even inside. Inside is nice during the nasty winter months!! Self Watering Planters work really well to create that little oasis for yourself. They are available in many styles. Freestanding stackable planters work well inside or out. For your deck or balcony, Deckrail Planters are pretty cool. From low cost to high end, check them out by clicking the banners below. And don’t forget Patio Gardner Dirk’s Store to the left under Blogroll.

I want everybody who reads this post to create that space where you can surround yourself with the simple beauty of flowers. When you begin to feel overwhelmed by the stress of everyday life, take 10 minutes, and just sit there taking in the moment. It will clear your thoughts and calm your soul. Trust me.
